Lame duck tough for activists

Tough duck. Get it? Hah. I’m not the best headline writer, but I was really proud when I came up with this one. Here’s the accompanying story:


Congress has a packed schedule for the lame duck, but activists may find it tough to weigh in on those issues.

With newly elected members still setting up their offices and outgoing members winding things down, this transition period can be unfriendly for activism.

Activist Leslie Weinberg recently got a taste of the confusion that can exist after elections.

The Connecticut resident who is concerned about tax credits for low-income families said a staffer in outgoing Democrat Sen. Christopher Dodd’s office directed her to the incoming lawmaker, Democrat Sen.-elect Richard Blumenthal.

“They told me they are closing down the office,” she said.

But when Weinberg called Blumenthal’s state attorney general office, she said they told her to call him after he is sworn in on January 5.
