The new year means a new Congress in Washington, and things are changing quickly for activists. I wrote a piece this week about immigrant rights groups who went from playing offense to defense within weeks.
Last month, the groups were hoping Congress would pass the DREAM Act, giving immigrants who came to the U.S. as children a path to legalization through attending college or joining the military.
Now, facing a push by state legislators to deny children of illegal immigrants birthright citizenship, the groups are switching to defensive mode.
