To prepare for the new Congress, the movement’s largest coalition group has hired a staff of eight and a D.C.-based public relations firm.
“This is new for us,” tea partyer Jenny Beth Martin said. “We have to develop a process to advocate for meaningful policy.”
The Patriots face an inherent tension as they do so. While leaders who have familiarized themselves with Capitol Hill say the know compromise is important, grassroots activists still treat it like a four-letter word.
